The 12 month rule
Gree NZ's card says the warranty is void if regular maintenance isn't carried out at intervals of no more than 12 months by a qualified Refrigeration and Air Conditioning tradesperson. The Authorised Repairer who comes out for a claim will ask to see your maintenance or service records.
In practice, plan the first service within a year of the install, and each one after that within a year of the last. Keep every invoice.
Who can install a Gree?
Gree NZ's Weka Plus page puts it plainly: "There are no strings attached: if your installer is industry qualified, that is okay with Gree." That gives you a wide choice of heat pump installer.
The warranty does have limits on where the unit came from. It applies only to a product sold by an Authorised Agent and installed, operated and maintained in New Zealand. It covers the original purchaser or owner only and can't be transferred, so it won't pass to whoever buys your house.
Gree NZ says it's been here just over 20 years, with 128 dealers nationwide and nine distribution centres. Its dealer finder is at greeac.co.nz/where-to-buy.
What the card excludes
- Defects from corrosive atmospheric conditions, which matters near the sea and in geothermal areas.
- Normal weathering and wear and tear.
- Problems caused by an owner not checking and clearing obstructions, including air filters, vents, coils and drainage pipes.
The WHIO is a different job
Gree's WHIO heats water for your taps and shower, not the air in your rooms. It's a separate job from a space heating heat pump, with plumbing and council questions of its own, so check those with the installer and your council before you commit.
Registering and claiming
Register the unit
Gree NZ asks owners to complete warranty registration online at warranty.greeac.co.nz.
Keep the records together
Proof of purchase, the electrician's Certificate of Compliance and every service invoice, in date order.
Lodge a service request online
Gree NZ takes warranty service requests through the same warranty site. Have the model name and your records ready.
Your part, between services
You can
- Check and clear the air filters, vents and the drainage pipe outlet, since the card makes that your job.
- Keep the outdoor unit's coil free of leaves and garden growth.
- Diary the next service date as soon as one's done.
Leave to a licensed installer
- The yearly maintenance, by a qualified Refrigeration and Air Conditioning tradesperson.
- Refrigerant work and any repair inside the unit.
- The electrical connection, by a registered electrician.
What we'd do
What we'd do
Because Gree accepts any industry qualified installer, we'd choose on the person rather than a dealer badge: someone who fits high-wall heat pumps every week and will also service it each year. We'd register the unit straight away and book the first service before the 12 months run out.
