About us

Privacy policyYour phone number goes to one installer: the one who takes your job.

This policy explains what Find My Aircon New Zealand collects, why, who sees it and what you can ask us to do, under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020. Put simply, we collect what's needed to get your heat pump, heating or ventilation job to a local specialist, only the installer who takes it gets your contact details, and we don't sell them. It's a draft that hasn't had a lawyer's review yet: lawyer review.

Who we are, and who handles privacy

This policy covers Find My Aircon New Zealand (findmyaircon.co.nz), run by legal entity name and address.

The Privacy Act requires every business to appoint at least one privacy officer. Ours deals with questions and requests about your information: privacy officer contact details. The Privacy Commissioner suggests linking a privacy statement wherever an online form collects details, which is why our quote form links here.

What we collect

When you send the quote form, we collect your answers about the job (what you need, what's there now and when), your postcode, your first name, your email address and your phone number. We also keep a record of your consent: the wording you agreed to and when you sent it.

When you email us, we keep your message, your address and anything you attach. When you browse the site, Microsoft Clarity notes where people click and scroll and which pages they open, using cookies to tie one visit together. Anything typed into a form or tool is hidden from it. When you send the quote form, Google reCAPTCHA checks that a real person is sending it. Our size calculator, running cost tool and quote checker work in your browser and don't send what you type to us.

Why we collect it

The main purpose is to get your job to local installers who specialise in it, so that the one who takes it can contact you about that job. We may also use your details for other purposes, such as checking a phone number is real or asking how the job went, to deal with complaints, and to keep records the law requires.

The Act says a business may only collect personal information for a lawful purpose connected with what it does, and only what that purpose needs. If you'd rather not give us a phone number or email, we can't pass your job on, but every guide and tool on the site is still yours to use.

Who sees it

Before anyone takes your job, registration-checked installers who cover your area and specialise in that work can see the job details and your suburb: exactly which details installers see before taking a job. They don't see your phone number or email at that stage.

The installer who takes your job receives your first name, email, phone and answers, so they can contact you about it. Only that installer gets your contact details. We don't sell or trade them, and we never give them to marketers.

Businesses that help us run the website and the job system, such as hosting and email providers, may handle your details for us: list of service providers. The Act expects us to protect personal information with reasonable security safeguards, and to do everything reasonably within our power to stop those providers misusing it.

If your details are stored overseas

Some of our providers may store or handle information outside New Zealand: where data is stored, and which providers are overseas. The Act only lets information go to an organisation overseas if that organisation is covered by the Act or by comparable safeguards, for example in a contract, or if you agree after being told plainly that it may not be protected to the same standard.

What the installer has to tell you

Since 1 May 2026, under principle 3A, a business that collects your information from another source generally has to tell you about it as soon as reasonably practicable, unless an exception applies. The Privacy Commissioner says that duty sits with whoever collects the information indirectly, which here is the installer who takes your job.

Our form tells you before you send that your details will go to the installer who takes the job, and why. When that installer first gets in touch, they should also tell you who they are and that your details came through Find My Aircon.

Emails and texts from us

We only send marketing emails or texts if you've agreed to get them: whether we send any marketing at all. Under the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007, every commercial message must say clearly who sent it and how to reach them, and carry a working unsubscribe option. An unsubscribe takes effect 5 working days after you ask. See unsubscribe.

How long we keep it, and how we protect it

How long we keep job details and consent records, and the security measures around them, are still being set: retention periods and security measures.

Seeing and correcting your information

You can ask whether we hold information about you, ask to see it, and ask us to correct it. We'll answer as soon as reasonably practicable, and no later than 20 working days after we receive your request, which is the Act's limit. Use our privacy request page.

The installer who took your job holds their own copy of your details, so if you want theirs corrected, ask them as well.

If something goes wrong

If we have a privacy breach that it's reasonable to believe has caused serious harm, or is likely to, we must tell the Privacy Commissioner as soon as practicable. We must also tell the people affected, or give public notice if that isn't reasonably practicable, unless an exception applies.

Not happy with our answer to a privacy question? Raise it with our privacy officer first, and if that doesn't settle it, the Privacy Commissioner is the next step: lawyer review of complaint route wording.

Where this information comes from

We don't publish prices. Every home is different, so an installer's written quote is the only real number. How we write and check these pages.
