Where our facts come from
We go first to whoever sets or polices the rule: the EWRB and WorkSafe for electrical work, the PGDB for gasfitting, Tenancy Services for the healthy homes standards, EECA for the energy label and Warmer Kiwi Homes, and the legislation itself for consumer and privacy law.
For how heat pumps and ventilation systems behave, we lean on BRANZ's Level guidance and Consumer NZ. Climate figures are NIWA's, usually through published tables that cite it, with the station and period named. For a brand, we use what that brand or its New Zealand distributor publishes, and we say so: "Rinnai NZ says", never "Rinnai is".
When a source wouldn't open
Some official pages wouldn't load for us while we were researching, which left only a search engine's summary of them. We don't treat a summary as a source. If the only evidence for a claim was second-hand, it isn't on the site, even where it's probably true.
When sources disagree
We show both, and say who said what. Servicing is a good example. Mitsubishi Electric NZ says a standard home system needs servicing at least once a year, while BRANZ talks about a service check every 2 to 3 years.
We'd rather show you the gap than quietly pick a side. For your own unit, the manual and the brand's warranty terms settle it.
No prices, and no brand rankings
We don't publish prices for any job, unit or service. A figure that suits one house can be well off for the next, so a written quote from an installer who has seen yours is the number to act on. Where a page talks about running costs, it shows the method, so you can use the rate on your own power bill.
We don't rank heat pump brands or call any of them the best. Brand pages say what each brand says about its own range and warranty, attributed to the brand.
Who writes the pages, and who doesn't
Pages are written by the Find My Aircon team to a written brief, then checked against their sources and our house rules before they go up. How we describe the tools we use to write and check them: disclosure of the writing process, including any AI tools.
Installers don't write our guides and don't approve them, and no installer is named in them. Because installers are who pays us, that line matters more here than it would elsewhere.
We never invent reviews, jobs, installers or numbers. Any review on the site will be a real Google review of an installer we pass jobs to, labelled as a review of that installer and not of us.
Dates, changes and corrections
Each page shows the date it was last updated. Some rules are moving right now. The Fair Trading Amendment Bill, for one, had been reported back by a select committee but wasn't law when we last checked, so we describe today's rules and flag the change.
If you spot a mistake, email us at corrections email address with the page address and what's wrong. We'll check it against the source and fix the page if we got it wrong. Honestly, we'd rather hear about it than leave it up.
