How long Haier's warranty runs
Haier NZ gives five years on air conditioning products with less than 25kW of system cooling capacity, two years at 25kW or more, and one year on all chillers. A typical home heat pump sits well under that line: BRANZ puts a domestic air-to-air unit at between 2 and 16 kW of heating, with cooling generally a little lower.
The warranty booklet we read is dated May 2017, so ask for the current version with your quote.
What Haier wants from the install
Haier's booklet excludes damage from installation by unqualified people, or without the compliance certificates local codes require. An install that breaches electrical or plumbing codes, or the installation instructions, may void any or all of the warranty.
It goes further on who fits it. If the installer wasn't a registered Fisher & Paykel Appliances or Haier Air Conditioning installer, Fisher & Paykel says it isn't responsible for loss or damage caused by incorrect installation, and the warranty doesn't apply to an incorrectly installed product. For the electrics here, that means the Certificate of Compliance a registered electrician must give you no later than 20 days after the work.
What to keep for a Haier claim
- The model and serial numbers of both units, which Haier's booklet asks you to record.
- Your installer's licensing details, which it also asks for.
- Every service and maintenance record, ready to show the technician when you claim.
- Add the Certificate of Compliance and the Electrical Safety Certificate. WorkSafe's form says to keep the ESC for at least 7 years.
Salt, sulphur and weather
The booklet excludes defects from weathering, "including atmospheric fall out or pollution, solar radiation, hail, salt, geothermal sulphur contamination environments or other corrosive residue". That reaches a lot of New Zealand: coastal suburbs, and geothermal towns like Rotorua and TaupÅ.
If that's you, ask the installer what corrosion protection they'll apply to the outdoor unit, and get it itemised on the quote.
The Haier range here
Haier Home NZ lists wall-mounted split systems for single rooms, Super Match multi-split systems, Smart Power ducted systems for whole homes, and Smart Power ceiling cassettes, which it lists as commercial. It also lists MRV systems and chillers. We didn't see a floor console on that page, so if you want one at floor level, ask before you settle on the brand.
Yours, and theirs
You can
- Find user guides on Haier NZ's resources page, and troubleshooting on its support site.
- Clean the filters the way the user guide says, and note when you did it.
- Keep the paperwork listed above in one place.
Leave to a licensed installer
- The install, the electrical connection and the certificates.
- Any fault inside either unit, and any refrigerant work.
- Corrosion protection on the outdoor unit.
What we'd do
What we'd do
We'd ask the installer straight out whether they're a registered Fisher & Paykel Appliances or Haier Air Conditioning installer, and get the answer on the quote. If they aren't, we'd want to know how they'd stand behind the install themselves, since the booklet says Fisher & Paykel won't carry an incorrect one.
