What Samsung sells here
Samsung NZ describes single split and multi split heat pumps, with indoor options that include its Bespoke AI WindFree wall-mounted unit, standard wall-mounted units, and 1-Way and 4-Way Cassette models. A ceiling cassette suits a room short on wall space, and a multi-room heat pump runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit.
The warranty covers products sold by a Samsung Authorised Reseller or Distributor and bought in New Zealand. Samsung lists installers on its where-to-buy page.
Compressor cover by unit type
| Whole unit | Compressor | |
|---|---|---|
| Wall mounted, single split | 5 years parts and labour | 10 years: the first 5 parts and labour, the next 5 parts only |
| Ducted, cassette and multi-split (FJM) | 5 years parts and labour | 5 years parts and labour |
Keeping the cover in place
Samsung's warranty doesn't cover damage from failing to maintain the product, and it names Annual Service and Cleaning of filters in that exclusion. Its FAQ says to clean the filters at least every 3 months, more often with pets, dust or heavy use, and to have a Samsung-authorised technician check the coils, refrigerant and gas levels once a year.
You don't have to register to claim, though Samsung says registering may speed a claim up. You will need proof of purchase, so keep the invoice with every service record.
Moving the unit, or selling the house
A unit installed, removed or re-installed at another location by anyone other than Authorised Samsung Service Personnel isn't covered. If you're renovating and the heat pump has to move, ask who'll do it before the builder takes it down.
Selling is kinder. Samsung's warranty transfers to the new owner if Samsung is told in writing within a reasonable time of the sale, so put that on your list for settlement week.
What else Samsung excludes
- Damage from improper installation or incorrect application.
- Abnormally corrosive conditions, rust or normal weathering, including salt spray, sand and dust.
- Units whose main use isn't comfort heating and cooling for people.
What's yours to do
You can
- Clean the filters at least every 3 months, and more often if you have pets.
- If it misbehaves, try a power reset first, as Samsung's FAQ suggests.
- Note any error code, or a blinking light on the indoor unit, and contact Samsung Support.
- Download the manual from Samsung NZ's user manuals page.
Leave to a licensed installer
- The yearly inspection of coils, refrigerant and gas levels.
- Removing or re-installing the unit anywhere new.
- A leak that keeps dripping. Samsung says to stop using it and book a professional inspection.
What we'd do
Where we'd start
We'd put the first annual service in the calendar on install day and keep each invoice in one folder with the proof of purchase. Near a surf beach or a dusty gravel road, we'd ask the installer what protection the outdoor unit needs, since salt, sand and dust damage sit outside the warranty.
