For installers

Apply to joinHave your numbers handy. We check them first.

To start seeing heat pump, heating or ventilation jobs, send us your business details, the registration numbers of the people who do the regulated work, your insurance and the jobs you specialise in. All of it gets checked against the public registers before you see anything. Where to send it: installer application form or email.

What to have ready

  • Your business name and trading name, plus company or NZBN details we ask for.
  • The name and EWRB registration or practising licence number of each electrical worker who connects heat pumps for you, whether they're on staff or brought in.
  • For gas heating, each gasfitter's PGDB registration and licence class.
  • Refrigerant credentials for each person who handles refrigerant, such as an RLTB Refrigerant Licence or an EPA Approved Handler or Approved Filler test certificate: refrigerant credential we require.
  • A current public liability insurance certificate.
  • The postcodes or towns you cover.
  • The jobs you specialise in, and the ones you'd rather not see.
  • Any brand accreditation you hold. Rinnai NZ, for example, says installation must be done by a Rinnai accredited installer, so some homeowners will want to know.

What happens after you apply

  1. We check the registers

Each electrical worker on the EWRB register, each gasfitter on the PGDB register, and your insurance certificate. How long that usually takes: check turnaround.

  2. We talk through areas and specialties

Which postcodes, and which kinds of job, so you only see work you want. How areas are split: how areas and job types are divided.

  3. You get the terms in writing

Pricing, contract length and notice, and what happens with a bad job: installer terms. Read them before you agree to anything.

  4. Jobs start

Once you've signed and your area is open, jobs in your specialties start appearing. When areas open: launch areas.

Choosing your specialties honestly

It's tempting to tick everything. Don't. A homeowner with a ducted system that keeps cycling on and off wants someone who has traced that fault plenty of times, and a poor first visit does more harm to your name than a job you never saw.

Gas heating needs a gasfitter. Installing, altering or repairing a gas appliance is gasfitting work, and Christchurch City Council, for one, says permanently fixed gas heaters must be installed or supervised by a certifying gasfitter who certifies their own work.

What we do with your application

We use it to check your registrations and insurance, set up your areas and specialties, and talk to you about joining. That includes looking up your people on the EWRB and PGDB public registers. The privacy policy covers how we look after it.

If you're not sure you'd fit, apply anyway and ask. We'd rather have the conversation.

Questions people ask

Do I need my own electrician to get heat pump jobs?
Every heat pump has to be connected by a registered and licensed electrical worker, but they don't have to be on your staff. Give us the details of whoever does your connections, and we'll look them up on the register.
Is there a fee to join?
Not decided yet: joining fee, if any. You'll know before you sign anything.

Where this information comes from

We don't publish prices. Every home is different, so an installer's written quote is the only real number. How we write and check these pages.
